"My head's above the rain and roses"



My first week of school has been interesting. There are times when it is easy to get through the day. There are times when I just want to go home. During those times that I want to go home, I always play this song ("Still Breathing" by Green Day). I fell in love with it when it came out as a single last September and it played while I was on vacation in Paris and London (usually while I was staring out of a train or bus window in awe). The video for it could not be better. It shows how the band always comes back together. This song always reminds me that there are always going to be things that get you down and that make you want to just give up but that you have to keep going and that you are "still breathing".
I was able to see this song performed live and it just brought so much more to the song. When it is performed live and everyone is singing along, it just makes it so much more powerful and meaningful. It was one of my favorite parts of the night. When I really feel like I want to go home or I feel overwhelmed, I play the live version and I always feel better.

Get to know me #5: Marvel

Marvel movies are amazing. Since the new Avengers trailer came out last week, I wanted to write about my favorite franchise. I have seen every Marvel movie since Iron Man . Most of the time it is in theaters on opening weekend but sometimes I miss one. In that case, I rent it on DVD and watch it. It's been almost 10 years since Marvel got involved in the movie business and Phase 3 is coming to a close. The fate of some of the characters are in the balance and no one knows what is coming next. Every movie is connected in some way which makes you have to watch them in order. I don't mind especially since I have seen them all so many times I know the little hints to other movies and what each tie in is. I remember a time when Marvel wasn't owned by Disney and the movies didn't make references to Disney movies or to things that don't really have much to do with the series (the jokes in  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 anyone?). Writing in Cursive-Microtheme

   I learned how to read and write cursive in the first grade. I have been using it ever since, especially when I want someone to be able to read my handwriting. Sadly, two of my cousins and many other children will not have this opportunity. If we stop teaching cursive to children, are we going to have to change our teaching styles and legal documents for them?    A major cause is that coding has taken over since the rise of technology and everyone has been focusing on it. Everyone spends all their time on coding and none of their time on cursive. While coding is important, cursive is equally as important.    One consequence is that many historical documents are written in cursive. Think of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
